There are many Asians living in the Bay Area particularly Vietnamese. Went to little Saigon in Story Road, San Jose for lunch. Had some Vietnamese spring rolls and and egg with shrimp wrap in Chinese lettuce.

Yum yum...

Definitely a change from eating the famous Vietnamese pho.

2 weeks in the USA and 2 more weeks to go. That's right, 2 more weeks before I fly back from San Francisco for a lay over in Hong Kong and another lay over in Kuala Lumpur before going home to Penang.

Jet setting is cool no? Cool when you get to earn airline miles for free trips. Not cool when you do not get to travel in business class during an economic downturn =(

Did some serious shopping last weekend and today. Nike, Osh Kosh, Carters, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo, Levis, Reebok, Banana Republic, Old Navy, GAP, Eddie Bauer... etc Damage to the wallet is approx USD200. Aaaargh... once a quarter ok la, since I come to California a couple times a year. And then tomorrow is the 4th of July so don't care and better take advantage of the 4th of July sale!

I have been neglecting this blog for awhile, no wait... more like a few weeks as I had been pretty tied up with work or rather more like too lazy to update.

Sure, I was in HK and got back about 3 weeks ago during all the H1N1 flu hype and dived straight back into the backlog of work waiting for me back in office. Ya, back to reality.

Today, I'd thought I take a moment to put in this entry so y'all won't think I dropped dead like char siew or whatever.

Nothing beats dim sum in Hong Kong. Simply yummy.
Next trip is already in the pipeline. Destination... USA again!

In H1N1 territory

Hong Kong health officials have started screening travellers arriving by land, sea and air.

I arrived Hong Kong yesterday from Penang travelling on Cathay Pacific. Coincidentally, Hong Kong confirmed Asia's first case of the H1N1 flu virus the same day.

I was in the United States a couple weeks ago. Had I been in the United States abit longer, it would have been necessary for me to go thru some kind of interview by the HK Health Authorities.

Not many people have started wearing face mask. Only a handful. At present, the Metropole Hotel in Wanchai district had been sealed off.

Working in the Bayan Lepas area, my colleagues and I travel to town for lunch on rare occassions. Last Tuesday was one of those occassions. We went to the world femes Continental Bakery in Nagore Road near Fima - you should know where Fima is if you are Penang kia.

They have one of the best Nasi Lemak.

The spaghetti is pretty good too albeit the small portion but they say good things come in small packages

Back from Silicon Valley last weekend and on to the daily routine again... but not for long though =) Last week was crazy. It has been a hectic week. But what comes with all the hard work at the end of each single day is to treat oneself with some gastronomous delight. That justifies.

The skewers ... they are just okay jek~ Our shrimps are nicer but they have better turkey, beef and fries and fries and fries. Oh did I say they have the best ~~fires?~~ fries?

Normally, I would start to get emails from that part of the world starting 10 pm.

No emails between 11:20 pm yesterday and 7:47 am today. And the last 2 emails received were some info about the internet outage.

Last week, I had lunch at this Chinese place that serves a variety of set lunch in Batu Maung. Can't remember the name of the place though. It's a few shops after Little Castle.
The seafood curry is quite tasty.

Looks like everybody in the blogging community, well, almost everybody have done the 2008 roll up in their blogs. Here's mine...

One of the highlights at work was I relocated to San Jose for a short term of two months and then lost some weight but earned some ~~$$$~~ allowance in the process.

Celebrated Octoberfest for the second time in a row in the US and enjoyed Haloween.

Bought a ticket from a scalper for USD60 and watched the Raiders played in Oakland.

Visited Lake Tahoe and lost USD200 at the casinos.

Saw how the rich live and how property prices dropped more than 20% in the Silicon Valley.

The ang mor company I work for celebrated it's 20th anniversary last year. Theme of the night was "Night of Colorful Cultures"

Experienced mall hunt and played paintball for the first time.

Got shot by the ladies near the crotch area not once but twice!!!

Got seriously drunk and puked myself silly about half a dozen times. Definitely not one of my proudest moments. Tell me I was not farked up!

Celebrated Christmas with this girl for the first time.

She turned one 2 weeks ago.

It's been a great year. I know 2009 will bring for me even more memories.

I have not been actively blogging in the past 2 years or so... yea, you know I always say that but probably the main reason as to why is ~~I suck at it~~ I'm ~~burnt out from blogging~~ err... okay, honestly, I am lazy. Hell yea!

As a matter of fact, over the past one year, there have been so many issues ~~policitically $#%K~~ politically, economically and all the social news, events and headlines that one can always take advantage to blog about.

It's interesting to read opinions of what other bloggers think and pen down their thoughts even though some are pure bullshit and crap. More often than not reading some nonsensical opinions always make my day at the end of a hard day's work.

Well, as to the real reason why I have not been blogging so often now, I am now gonna reveal to you the reason.... I have been writing a book and it's gonna be launched sometime in Sept this year. Everything's set and it took me 2 hours everyday for almost 300 days to finish it.

Now that the book is done. I am gonna have to find myself other things to ~~offccupy~~ occupy my time. So keep an eye for my new book coming to a bookstore near ya. I am not gonna reveal anything just yet. Just wait for it... *jeng jeng jeng*

Textile trade exhibitions

Texworld or Interstoff is one of the must visit exhibition for buyers and suppliers of fabrics and textiles. From basic polyester cotton blended fabrics to the likes of Invista's world famous brands like COOLMAX®, CORDURA® and LYCRA®. The coming exhibition will be from 22 - 25 Sept 2008 with the theme "Worldwide Textile Rendez-vous"

Premiere Vision also held in Paris is another great fabric show which you'll see alot of college students in the exhibition. This exhibition showcases the newest and trendiest fashion and styles. Normally, held the same time as Texworld, the next show is from 23 to 26 Sept 2008.

The other exhibition that I attended where Sports and textiles/fabrics is concern is the ISPO (Summer ISPO/Winter ISPO). Unlike Texworld and Premiere Vision, ISPO is a more casual sports like event where you don't need to dress up in suits. Just jeans or anything casual is acceptable. The fashion shows at ISPO is a must watch! Held in Munich, the next one is from 1 - 4 Feb during Winter obviously.

Another leading trade fair that I had the opportunity to attend is the European Outdoor Exhibition. This year's event is starting next week from 17 to 20 July 08 in the resort of Friedrichshafen, Germany. One of the nicest venue to hold an exhibition, Friedrichshafen is in the border of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. There is a ferry servicing Friedrichshafen to Romanshorn in Switzerland. My luggage took a detour to Paris while I was on my way here !!! What a memorable experience for me when I got back my luggage on the day I was leaving Germany!

Well, I gotta admit sometimes I am not too sure if I have made the right move switching to semi-conductor after over 8 years being spun, woven and dyed in the ~~so-called sunset~~ textile industry.

In the world of textiles, researchers are now working to develop fabrics from metallic fibres to measure stress. How cool is that?

At the core of the vest is “wearable electronics”. This consists of sensors woven into the fabric that register the electrical excitation of the muscle fibers, and thin conducting metallic fibers that pass the signals to an electronic analysis system.

Ever since the arrival of little Sue Lynn, my life took several twists, turns and turned upside down even. It has been almost 3 months since her birth. I was losing sleep... getting a mere 4~5 hours every night. And partly also due to the early conference calls I have been attending in the past month as well.

Slowly by surely, I am gaining back control of my life.

A new chapter of my life had just begun and that chapter is Parenthood.

P/S: Damn! I just hate Astro mia customer service. I had to call them 1000 times just to change my billing frequency from yearly to monthly. Idiots!

One and a half months and CNY

Chinese New Year has always been one of the annual events my family and I prepared for the most. This year, it was different. Very minimal preparation went into ushering the Year of the Rat. Obviously, everything we do now revolves around the newest addition to the family. She has been keeping the proud grandparents buzy everyday.

The little one is about a month and a half today. She's now more active and could lift her head momentarily. Sleeps lesser now. Likes to listen to voices and does not wake up so often for milk at night.

Dad bought Sue Lynn her crib today. It's in a light shade of Blue although we prefer a feminine color for her. There was only a couple colors to choose from so we got the Blue one.

Everyone at home is anticipating the day she comes home which is the 23rd of January. She checked in on Christmas Day and will be checking out on Thaipusum... what a coincidence.

She could open both eyes on the 3rd day. Boy, she likes to sleep. Probaby due to the slight jaundice she's been having.

Back at home...

Day 5 - today. We decided to take her to the clinic to check on her Jaundice. She has mild Jaundice and is now under going photo therapy. I hope that she can recover quickly as we are anxious to hold her again.

Is this guy human or what? I could hardly calculate the square root of a 4 digit number mentally and this French guy could do a 13th root of a two hundred digit number all in his head!!!! And all just slightly more than a minute!!! Impossible or what !???

Very impressive, but what actually is the point? Learning a language has an obvious benefit, as does the ability to complete basic mental calculations, but given the time and training involved in this feat, one has to wonder if there aren't more productive means of employing intelligence.

I am in Taoyuan airport right now. Once again I am blogging from the airport lounge. My next flight will take me to Frisco - that's San Francisco for you, my dear =)
That's the big flight but I don't think I can get my eyes to shut, dat's just me.

Time now is 9:37PM and I have had a nice shower, eaten some noodles (again!!) and ~~dim sum~~ dimmies in the lounge. Now just kinda chillin checking emails (argghhh!) and starting to worry about the amount of work to be done when I get back to opis after the long weekend. Sien nia just thinking about the pile of work waiting.

This trip has been tiring so far. I don't know why but one things for sure, I know I am not too old for this just yet... still many places to go visit and explore.

Mongolian BBQ

One of the nicest meal I had in Taipei was the Mongolian BBQ. You select from the many variety of meats they have like beef, chicken, lamb, pork and venison and lots of vegetables like lettuce, carrots and bean sprouts then add the various sauces they have for taste. Pass it to the chef and he'll cook it in a big wok for ya.

Airport lounge

The last and final destination I am heading to next week is back to the Silicon Valley. I am back home for the weekend and then off I fly again to the United States.

I've been travelling alot the last few weeks and spending alot of time in airport lounges...

Here's a typical business lounge in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport... it's Cathay Pacific's

You get free drinks from tea to local beers and liquor and from pastries to noodles... and they are all free cause you've already paid for them in your ticket... duh! You get free broadband and in some lounges, you can have a shower as well. It's good have a place to ~~hang, relax~~ check emails, work and freshen up when in transit especially when you are on long haul flights.

Like in Taipei, lemme show you first the view from my room and the toilet I drop my deuce.

Okay, now moving along... here's the toilet. Everything in the toilet is very compact and small. The sink, the toilet bowl, the bath tub, small small small.

Okay, ladies and gentlemen, this is the...uhmm... toilet. The first thing I did after checking into the room was to head straight into the washroom. Drop my pants and did my job. Travelling to Tokyo took all day. About 14 hours door-to-door from house to hotel room. One day wasted just getting there.

I dropped a big one and oh boy... you just gotta lurveeee their toilet.

Now that I am back in Penang, I kinda miss my toilet in Japan =(

I have arrived at probably one of the most expensive cities in the world. I am at the Grand InterContinental Hotel, Seoul.

Just to give you an idea how expensive this place is.... broadband internet access from this hotel is almost RM100 for 24 hours. So an hour is like RM4.20!

I've got an LCD TV in the room... but then this room goes for a thousand ringgit a night!

Took time off to visit the Robert Mondavi winery in Napa Valley when I was in Cali. Napa Valley is fames for its wine and is about an hour and fifteen minutes drive from Santa Clara.

Look at them grapes. You get to try the grapes too.

$25 for a tour of the winery and some wine tasting session. Expensive?

... in the opis for more than 12 hours almost daily working on the new Sales tool to be used by the whole company and sales network come mid-October. Been really working on the software to crash it and making sure the bugs are all fixed before "Go Live"

The end is almost near but still plenty to do with the user guides, training materials and other shits. Need a break from all these special projects. Well actually I love the projects but the daily, weekly and monthly job commitments and reports are taking the toll on me.

Pay me more so I won't complain.

Welcome me to Vegas!!!

Man oh man! Vegas is great. Had so much fun when I was there. It's never boring and it's really the entertainment city of the world. Wow!

I checked out all the world famous hotels like Bellagio, Harrah's, MGM Grand, Wynn, The Venetian, The Mirage... Oh boy! Impressive.

Gosh! It's been a really hectic week for me. After flying back from the States, the Boss flew in to Penang and I had one busy week entertaining the Boss. I hope it's all worth while!!!

Hello everyone reading this. I am back in Penang and touched down this afternoon, Friday 27th of July 2007. The trip was great. Well, almost everything was perfect. Took lots of pictures at The Strip. Only it was not my camera so I had to wait until my travel companions upload the pics. Hope they will turn out great.

Did I tell you Apple's iPhone rocks? Wa lau eh!!!!

Sorry, no chocolates this time... you know who you are.

In the US again

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking. We are now cruising at 30,000 feet... and I am now blogging from San Jose, California.

This is already my third trip here since joining the company and it has been only 8 months! Amazing but super busy so I'll be taking some time off after getting my work done here and head down to Vegas this summer beybeh. The next trip is already in the pipeline sometime in September!!! That's like flying here every 2 and a half months. Yea, lemme show off abit la ya? After all so many people are travelling for biz trip these days. So lame...

Sien... it's 5:30 am in the morning and I was up since 3. Jet lag ka? Oh ya... travelling business class was GREAT too. Ciao!

Konsortium Bus Company

Last weekend I had the chance to travel from Pudu to Penang by bus... Konsortium Bus Company to be exact. Man!!! I tell you it was kelam-kabut at the terminal in Puduraya.

First, the bus was supposed to leave at 1:30pm but it did not turn up until 2! Passengers were frantically searching for the correct bus and one of the coordinator was shouting at them to take the next bus...blah blah blah

Then when the bus arrived it is first come first serve basis. They don't follow to the seat number stated on your bus ticket.

Just awhile ago, I came across this video at YouTube.

So next time better think twice before taking the Konsortium Bus. It's already in my blacklist.
